The Mitsubishi FX2N-4AD-PT is a specialized analog expansion block for the MELSEC FX series PLCs (specifically the FX1N, FX2N, FX3U, and FX3G). It is designed to interface directly with Pt100 RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) sensors.
Instead of outputting a voltage or current, this module provides the excitation current to the RTD and converts the resistance change into a digital temperature value for the PLC.
1. Key Technical Specifications
The “PT” in the name indicates its exclusive compatibility with Platinum 100-ohm sensors.
| Feature | Details |
| Number of Channels | 4 Isolated Channels |
| Input Type | Pt100 (3-wire) |
| Temperature Range | -100°C to +600°C |
| Digital Output | -1000 to +6000 (representing -100.0°C to +600.0°C) |
| Resolution | 0.2°C to 0.3°C |
| Accuracy | ±1% of full scale |
2. Wiring and 3-Wire Compensation
The FX2N-4AD-PT is designed for 3-wire RTDs. The third wire is used to compensate for the resistance of the lead wires, which is critical for accuracy when the sensor is located far from the PLC.
-
L+ and L-: The main measurement wires.
-
I-: The compensation wire.
-
FG: Frame Ground (shield wire connection).
Note: If you are using a 2-wire RTD, you must jump the L- and I- terminals together at the module, though this will decrease accuracy over long distances.
3. Communication with the PLC (Buffer Memories)
The module communicates with the FX CPU via the internal bus. You use the FROM/TO instructions (in GX Developer/GX Works) or Buffer Memory (BFM) access to read the data.
-
BFM #1 to #4: Current temperature values for Channels 1 through 4.
-
BFM #0: Input mode selection (to enable/disable channels).
-
BFM #29: Error status bits.
