The Schneider Electric Modicon TSXAEZ801 is a high-density Analog Input Module for the Modicon Micro (TSX 37) PLC range. It is designed to interface with multiple sensors, converting analog voltage or current signals into digital values for the PLC processor.

This module is a “Half-Size” module, allowing it to fit into the compact slots of the TSX 37 chassis.

1. Key Technical Specifications

The TSXAEZ801 is an 8-channel module, providing high density for its physical size.

Feature Details
Number of Channels 8 Common Point Inputs
Input Ranges 0–10V, 0–5V, 1–5V, 0–20mA, 4–20mA
Resolution 12-bit (0 to 4095 units)
Acquisition Cycle 1.1 ms + (1.1 ms × number of channels used)
Isolation Inputs isolated from the bus; No isolation between channels

2. Wiring and Connection

The module uses a 15-pin Sub-D connector. Because it is a “Common Point” module, all 8 inputs share a single common return (0V), which is an important consideration for grounding and noise prevention.

  • Current Loops (4–20mA): To measure current, you must connect external 250 Ω precision resistors (usually supplied with the module) across the input terminals to convert the current signal into a voltage the module can read.

  • Shielding: To ensure 12-bit accuracy, use shielded twisted-pair cabling. The shield should be grounded at the module end using the metal shell of the Sub-D connector.

3. Software Configuration (PL7 Pro / EcoStruxure)

This module is typically programmed using PL7 Pro software (or its successor, EcoStruxure Machine Expert – Legacy).

  • Addressing: The module is addressed based on its slot position. For example, if it is in Slot 2, the inputs are addressed as %IW2.0 through %IW2.7.

  • Configuration: Within the hardware configuration tool, you must define the signal range (e.g., 4–20mA) for each channel. The module will then automatically scale the electrical signal into a digital value.

4. Common Troubleshooting Tips

  • Erratic Readings: Often caused by “floating” inputs. Since these are common-point inputs, ensure the signal grounds of your sensors are at the same potential as the PLC’s analog ground.

  • Input at 4095: If a channel is pegged at the maximum value, it usually indicates an open circuit (for 1–5V or 4–20mA modes) or an input voltage exceeding 10V.

  • Missing Resistor: If you are trying to read a 4–20mA signal and get 0 or very low values, verify that the 250 Ω shunt resistor is physically installed at the connector.

5. Migration Note

The Modicon Micro (TSX 37) series is a discontinued legacy product.

  • Modern Alternative: The current equivalent for this system is the Modicon M340 or M580 range.
